Infinity has inked a deal to develop new cancer therapies with Novartis. The alliance will concentrate on developing new treatments involving Bcl-2 protein family members, which play a role in facilitating the survival of cancer cells. Infinity gains a $30 million up front fee and milestones promising to push the total past $400 million for a successful commercialization effort. Novartis also agreed to invest in Infinity if it goes public within the next two years. "This collaboration in an area with as much potential as Bcl-2 antagonism represents an opportunity for a significant advancement in the creation of important new therapies for cancer patients," said Julian Adams, Ph.D., Chief Scientific Officer, Infinity.
