FDA revamps drug labels

According to the FDA, some 300,000 people a year are hurt by drug side effects, a result at least in part of the often-confusing labels that are used to guide drug users. Now the FDA says it will require new labels that are easier for both doctors and patients to understand. A new highlights section is intended to spotlight critical information and there will table of contents to help providers navigate the data. Dr. Janet Woodcock, deputy commissioner for operations, called it the first major overhaul on prescribing information in 25 years.
