A pair of high-profile FDA approvals were issued on Friday afternoon. As expected, the agency approved Pfizer's Exubera for diabetes, the first inhaled insulin to be granted marketing approval. This is the first new method for administering insulin since the therapy was developed in the 1920s. It's also considered more effective than injected insulin, with patients achieving peak insulin concentration faster. As a result, analysts expect that Exubera has massive market potential. European authorities approved Exubera one day earlier than the FDA and now India and other countries are expected to rapidly follow suit.
