Discovery Partners to close site, consolidate ops

Discovery Partners International said it has ended talks with Pfizer aimed at extending their collaboration past January 5, 2006, and will close its South San Francisco research facility. The company said that it did not know how many of its 50 workers at the site would be laid off, but that it would consolidate its chemistry platform in San Diego. The move will cost Discovery Partners about $10 million in restructuring charges. Discovery CEO Riccardo Pigliucci resigned from his post earlier this month after a disagreement with the board over its strategic plan.
