CEO Scangos will see a familiar face become chairman at Biogen Idec

Biogen Idec ($BIIB) chairman William Young is taking his last lap at the fast-growing Boston biotech. Young plans to step down from the board in May, when he'll be relieved by Stelios Papadopoulos, the cofounder of Exelixis ($EXEL). The change of the guard leaves CEO George Scangos with a chairman whom he has known for some time. Scangos was CEO at Exelixis before he was recruited to run Biogen Idec, where he brought in a new management team and was credited with a big turnaround in capturing a leading position in the MS market.
