California Attorney General Bill Lockyer will widen his lawsuit against the pharmaceutical industry today, alleging that dozens of drug companies defrauded Medi-Cal, the state's healthcare program for the poor. Lockyer originally aimed his suit against Abbott Laboratories and Wyeth, claiming the two had inflated wholesale drug prices in order to gouge the system. The state's drug bill has doubled to $3 billion over the past decade, even though patient loads have declined 15 percent.
