Burnham Institute to create new campus in Orlando

In a major victory for Florida economic development officials, the Burnham Institute for Medical Research in La Jolla has agreed to establish a new campus in Orlando. The institute was won over with $310 million in state and local funds. Governor Bush wasted no time in heralding the win, saying that Florida is now in the top ranks of states focused on life sciences. Three years ago Florida persuaded Scripps Research to set up a campus in Florida as well. Bush says that more research groups are being wooed.
