ViroPharma terminates maribavir trial after failure
ViroPharma saw its stock plunge 50 percent last week on the news that its drug maribavir failed a late stage study. The drug failed to demonstrate a higher efficacy rate than the placebo in preventing cytomegalovirus in liver transplant patients. Now the company says its following the recommendations of its data monitoring committee and terminating the trial altogether. All patients will be moved to the current standard of care, the company said in a statement.
