Joshua Boger has made a prominent reputation for himself as founder and CEO of Vertex. Now he offers some advice for others who want to follow the same biotech path. In a conversation with the Charlotte Business Journal, he offers the following to entrepreneurs:
- "Follow your own business plan. Don't follow the winds that blow back and forth. You can't be successful by following the trends of the moment, especially if your business has a relatively long product cycle, as ours does."
- "Biotechnology companies, particularly ones focused on human health, have unlimited potential to create value."
- "You can't be in my business without being an optimist. I do think that there's a real opportunity here. Challenges force people to be more efficient. They actually do more effectively weed out the weak. In the end, that leaves more opportunity for the strong business plans and the businesses that really can adapt. Those businesses will come through this period stronger because of it."
- "I think there will be fewer biotechnology companies in the United States a year from now. I'm not happy about that, but that's a fact."
