Talabostat trials put on hold on discouraging data
Regulators have dealt another blow to Point Therapeutics, putting their late-stage trials of the lung cancer therapy talabostat on clinical hold based on interim results. The company announced that their data monitoring committee recommended a halt to the studies after neither primary nor secondary goals were reached. Talabostat had been in two trials with other drugs to determine its effectiveness at improving progression-free survival. Two months ago Point announced that a trial for pancreatic cancer had failed to hit a primary endpoint. Its stock dropped to 14 cents a share today after closing at 44 cents on Friday. One of the trials put on hold today combined talabostat with Alimta and the other paired it with Taxotere.
