Impressions from BIO 2007
Like most big industries, biotechnology is regularly sliced and diced by the experts to see how healthy its business is. For my part, I'll take last week's impressions from BIO 2007 as a key indicator of the strength of biotechnology worldwide. With more than 22,000 registered attendees in Boston - a third from outside the U.S. - even a casual observer would take away the clear understanding that this business has rarely been more bullish. It has been noted that market investors have largely been immune from the upbeat tone surrounding drug development. But as long as venture capitalists and Big Pharma continue to make big plays in the field, biotech will continue to enjoy rapid growth and the continued entry of new players. -John Carroll
