German software magnate sinks fortune into biotech

German software magnate Dietmar Hopp, who founded SAP, has been putting money into biotechnology over the past few years. He invested $20 million into Cytonet seven years ago to develop liver cells as a substitute for transplants. But he's sunk €320 million into a total of 15 biotech companies, making him the biggest investor in Germany's biotech industry. And he has ambitious plans to grow them into major players in the biotech world.
