Follica quickly lans $11M second round
Just seven months after raising $5.5 million in its Series A round, Boston-based Follica announced that it has raised $11 million more in a Series B. Polaris Venture Partners led the round, with InterWest Partners and PureTech Ventures participating. PureTech helped found the company with researchers from Harvard, UC San Francisco and the University of Pennsylvania. Their work centers on a new therapy for a type of male and female pattern baldness. The company's technology has been licensed from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine.
"The cutting-edge biology on which the company was founded allows Follica to address hair loss and multiple other conditions with an entirely novel mechanism of action," says new board member Dr. Kevin Bitterman, a principal at Polaris Venture Partners. "The combination of world-class founders George Cotsarelis, Rox Anderson and Vera Price, and the enormous unmet need in the aesthetic dermatology space make this a tremendously exciting company."
