FDA orders halt to Telik cancer trials
The FDA has ordered Telik to halt studies of Telcyta after the developer released data over the weekend that showed women taking the experimental ovarian cancer drug died on average five months faster than women in a control group. Telik announced late last year that Telcyta had failed to demonstrate an improvement in overall survival, but the new safety data didn't come out until Sunday. The agency has halted all enrollment in the trials and ordered that women in the trials no longer receive Telcyta. Shares of Telik quickly skidded lower on the report.
