In a widely-anticipated move, an FDA expert committee has recommended Bristol-Myers Squibb's Sprycel for leukemia. BMS stock rose slightly in the wake of the announcement Friday afternoon. The recommendation comes for Sprycel for patients who are resistant to other therapies for chronic myeloid leukemia. Gleevec is the standard therapy for CML and some analysts now expect Sprycel to present the therapy with new competition. The committee meeting was held at the ASCO gathering in Atlanta. A formal decision is expected by the end of this month.
