Covance expands ops in Latin America

Following Big Pharma's lead, contract research organizations are increasingly expanding their services into emerging markets. The latest expansion news comes from Princeton, NJ-based Covance. The CRO has opened new clinical research offices in Santiago, Chile and Lima, Peru, both of which will support research throughout the region. Covance has also expanded its facilities in Buenos Aires, Argentina-the site of its first office in Latin America, opened in 1997.

"Our strategy is to target areas for qualified patient populations and the most qualified investigators as we selectively expand our presence in key metropolitan centers in emerging regions such as Latin America," said Katie Margules, Covance's senior director of project management in Latin America. "Our focus continues to be on delivering outstanding drug development and building stronger strategic relationships with our clients."
