Avastin encounters rare failure for pancreatic cancer

Genentech's Avastin has finally run into a clinical obstacle. The biotech company said it is halting research into Avastin as a therapy for pancreatic cancer after determining that the therapy was not extending the lives of patients to any significant degree. Genentech still believes that Avastin has broad applications, noting that the drug is currently in 130 clinical trials covering 25 different types of cancer. Avastin was originally approved for colon cancer.
