Animal rights groups target Arizona project
The CRO Covance says it's run into opposition from animal rights activists who are opposed to its development of a $100 million research facility in Chandler, AZ. The company, which plans to undertake new animal testing programs in the facility, says that People for Ethical Treatment of Animals and Washington, D.C.-based Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine have both been organizing opposition to the project. Covance says it plans to counter their campaigns with a public relations offensive of its own designed to get its side of the story out.
