Digestive hormone + estrogen generates huge weight loss in obese mice

Pairing a hormone from the digestive system known as GLP-1 with estrogen and then administering the combination molecule to obese laboratory mice helped the rodents lose weight, according to research funded in part by Roche Pharma. Both substances have worked on their own as obesity treatments, but the novel aspect here is that the combination worked more effectively than either has separately. What's more, the combined treatment led to a smaller number of side effects, including excess tissue growth connected to the onset of tumors. Scientists at Indiana University and international colleagues pursued the research, and the journal Nature Medicine published the details. Release
