The FDA has given five new approvals for Pfizer's blockbuster Lipitor, with its sanction for reducing the risk of heart attacks and strokes and for heart surgery. Originally approved as a cholesterol-lowering drug, Lipitor is now approved for high-risk cardiovascular patients. It's a big market. Pfizer notes that more than 15 million Americans have a history of heart disease.
