London-based Allergy Therapeutics' ragweed allergy vaccine passed a pivotal clinical trial. Researchers said that Pollinex Quattro Ragweed demonstrated significant improvements in symptoms compared to patients taking a placebo. The vaccine requires only four shots a year, which would make it a powerful competitor in a market that caters to 30 million ragweed sufferers in North America.
"This is the climax of all the pre-phase III work that we have conducted over the last year and probably the most important data that we have generated in the last 5 years," said Allergy Therapeutics' R&D director Dr Tom Holdich.
