Hydra Biosciences Raises $22 Million in Series D Financing
Company Advancing TRP Ion Channel Drugs to Initiate Human Clinical Trials in 2009
CAMBRIDGE, Mass., January XX, 2009 - Hydra Biosciences, Inc., a biotech company developing novel ion channel drugs, today announced that it has raised $22.2 million in a Series D financing led by funds managed by MedImmune Ventures. Proceeds from the financing will be used to advance multiple Transient Receptor Potential (TRP) ion channel drug programs, the most advanced moving toward clinical trials in 2009, to be applied to diseases such as pain, inflammation, and pulmonary disease.
The new investor, MedImmune Ventures, joined existing investors Advanced Technology Ventures, Abingworth, Polaris, BioVenture Investors, Biogen-Idec Ventures, and Lilly Ventures in the round. Hydra Biosciences has raised $47 million in previous rounds of financing.

As part of the closing of this financing transaction, Dr. Karen Gotting-Smith of AstraZeneca, the parent company of MedImmune Ventures, will join the board of directors of Hydra Biosciences.
