Bench International Inc. Appoints Dr. Sally Barennes As Vice President, Executive Recruitment

LOS ANGELES and BASEL – Bench International, a global, milestone-based, performance-driven executive recruiting and consulting firm serving the life sciences industry, has appointed Dr Sally Barennes as Vice President, Executive Recruitment. As part of Bench International's one global team helping life science companies to find and retain transformative leaders, Dr Barennes is now responsible for business development, client relationships and search execution in Europe, and works as an active member of the firm's executive team and in close collaboration with Janet Foulkes in Bench International's London office.

Dr Barennes joins Bench International to head the Swiss Office, building upon two decades of experience in the pharmaceutical sector where she has made significant contributions to R&D strategy, clinical success and business growth. During her career, she has held positions of increasing importance at leading pharmaceutical companies, including Pfizer, Novartis and Roche. She brings to her new role a global perspective on the life science industry stemming from her work experience that has spanned the US, UK, Germany and Switzerland.

"The addition of Sally is consistent with Bench International's strategy of building one global team composed of both career recruiters and life science industry leaders who understand first- hand the challenges that pharmaceutical and biotech companies must overcome as they work to add the right talent at the right time," commented Denise (DeeDee) DeMan, chairman and chief executive officer of Bench International. "This strategy affords us a three-dimensional approach to understanding the scientific, business and human resource components of every client situation."

"Assuming this role is a natural and logical progression for me," remarked Dr Barennes. "Throughout my career, I've witnessed first hand the value of a skilled recruiting firm and the importance of getting the right person with the right expertise in the right organization. Life science organizations cannot afford to make a mistake, and the talented people in the workforce today need to find the environment in which they can best reach their full potential."

At Roche, Dr Barennes served as the Global Head of Strategy for Pharma Research and Early Development (pRED), managing the central strategy group and overseeing the strategic agenda and business plan, organizational redesign and various strategic initiatives. At Novartis, she served in clinical operations and assumed various project leadership roles, including scientific leadership and change management initiatives. During her nearly eight years at Pfizer, Dr Barennes worked largely on Lipitor. Most recently, s he served as an Associate Consultant with ADV Life Science, primarily focused on organizational and strategic review and evaluation and strategy development.

Dr Barennes continued, "There is an ongoing stream of mergers and acquisitions in life sciences. Subsequent organizational integration and redesign causes uncertainty for hiring managers and for those talented individuals who can help but who also struggle to find the right role— culturally and professionally. Making the connection that will remove that uncertainty is where Bench shines."

Dr Barennes earned a Ph. D. in Physiology from the University of Nottingham and a Master of Business Arts from the University of Liverpool.
