Brazil sees tree frog as key to therapies

The Brazilian government believes that the slime of a poisonous tree frog indigenous to the Amazon contains peptides that can play a big role in the development of new therapeutics. The slime contains known tranquilizers and other ingredients that researchers say may well prove a key to developing new drugs to treat hypertension, strokes and other ailments. This is part of a Brazilian effort to turn its natural resources into a giant laboratory for developing new products.
