Position Description

The Program Director will lead teams responsible for product development from pre-clinical safety through regulatory approval. The incumbent will work cross-functionally to identify and implement strategies and plans that optimize product development activities to meet target product profiles. Product development teams are supported through matrixed resources, and the position requires close working with team representatives, project managers and function area leaders. Program directors are the primary external liaison for partnered development programs. This is a key leadership position within the company, and involves routine interaction with senior management. The candidate will work cross-functionally to build aggressive development plans that meet rigorous scientific and business expectations. Lead, guide, and mentor teams to meet and exceed program plans and milestones. Oversee development program budgets and spend. Represent development programs at senior management reviews. Ensure timely and appropriate communication of program activities and status. Support new product planning, due diligence activities and strategic planning exercises. Identify and implement improvements that optimize product development processes. Build and maintain strong working relationships and open communication channels across all levels of management in all functions supporting product development, including Research and Development, Project Management, Regulatory Affairs, Quality, Operations, Business Development, Corporate Communications and Commercial Operations. Build and maintain strong working relationships and effective communication channels with alliance partners for external development programs. The candidate must have broad knowledge of pharmaceutical drug development and commercialization.
Situational leadership skills for team building, facilitation, conflict resolution and negotiation. Ability to work effectively across multiple functions, at all levels of management. Exceptional communication skills. An advanced degree in a relevant scientific discipline is required. 15 years pharmaceutical product development experience. 10 years of line management and/or team leadership. Prior experience in platforms, technologies and/or indications. Prior experience with US and global regulatory submissions. Prior experience as a liaison with corporate partners.
