Position Description

Covance is expanding its biotechnology services business to the United States. This is an exciting opportunity to get in on the ground floor of a rapidly growing scientific service offering with one of the world’s premier drug development companies. The biotechnology business unit will provide a comprehensive portfolio of contract GLP and GMP laboratory services supporting the development and manufacture of biotechnology, biopharmaceutical and vaccine products.

We are currently seeking a Sr. Scientist – Bioassay for our Biotechnology lab in Greenfield IN. As a Sr. Scientist you will provide scientific leadership of the technical specialty of Cell Based Bioassay, as well as:

• Provides expert “hands on” support for the delivery of Bioassays
• Provides technical training and mentoring of junior laboratory staff
• Leads technical investigations
• Supports the definition of and implementation of startup priorities, systems and SOPs for the biotechnology group
• Participates in technical discussions with clients on site and at their sites as necessary to support their analytical needs and to determine the appropriate resolution of client issues
• Supports Sales and Marketing efforts on site and at client sites as requested
• Assists in assigning and scheduling study performance
• Guides junior staff and less experienced peers in GLP and cGMP interpretation
• Writes SOPs supporting Analytical testing, Quality systems, data systems, technical issues and instrumentation

Qualifications include:

• Bachelor of Science/Arts (BS/BA) degree
• 5+ years of experience in a Regulated biotechnology, biopharmaceutical or pharmaceutical industry
• 8+ years of scientific experience relevant to the performance of cell based analysis of pharmacologically active compounds
• Relevant software and automation experience required
GMP compliance experience required
• Expert working knowledge of cell based analytical methods
• Hands on expertise in the performance of cell culture, robotic preparatory systems, plate readers and analytical software
• Functional knowledge of LIMS and other electronic data systems
• Strong knowledge of GMP and GLP requirements
