Post Doctoral Fellow - Variation Biotechnologies

Position Description

General Summary:
Variation Biotechnologies, Inc. (VBI) is a young, energetic biotechnology company located in Ottawa, Ontario that is advancing several novel vaccines into the clinic in 2010. One of VBI’s platform technologies is based on a novel liposomal delivery/adjuvant technology, suitable for vaccination by a variety of routes (eg intramuscular, oral). VBI seeks a creative, motivated individual that can think critically and independently to further develop this platform technology. Research will focus on a mechanistic, molecular understanding of how liposomal vaccine formulations contribute to vaccine immunogenicity. This research will involve formulation of liposomes, their analytical characterization, and in vitro and in vivo studies designed to understand what factors/mechanisms contribute to immunogenicity. The fellow will meet regularly with the Vice President of Immunology to discuss the scope/direction of research, review experimental results, and plan studies.
Requirements:
- PhD or MD degree and strong background in immunology, virology, or liposome/microparticle research
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
Desirable:
-Familiarity with standard immunological assays including ELISAs, flow cytometry, lymphoproliferation assays
-Familiarity with concepts/experimental approaches used to evaluate signal transduction pathways
-Small animal handling (bleeding, immunization)
-Cell culture
-Immunohistochemistry
