Position Description

Reports to the EVP, Client Services

Scope of Function:
Responsibilities include finding and developing new business opportunities and partnerships, continued development of ongoing relationships with current clients, and developing and implementing sales, marketing and advertising strategies.

Position Responsibilities:
1) Direct the activities of the responsible sales representatives (if applicable), developing new client relationships, ensuring client needs are met in a timely and professional manner.
2) Provide the leadership to build a Sales and Marketing department to ensure continued growth targets are met.
3) Insure that all documentation for clients related to BD, including but not limited to, CDAs, Pricing Estimates, SOWs, AFS and Quality Agreements, are completed quickly and to both Company and Clients’ satisfaction.
4) Collaborate with Operations, Project Mgmt., Quality, Finance, & Clients to meet requirements of each project.
5) Prepare and maintain sales/marketing department budgets.
6) Prepare schedules for Sales, Marketing and Advertising and Business Development related activities, including conferences and sales trips.
7) Provide advice and support to our Clients during the initial stages of relationship development, ensuring that every client gets individual, timely and professional support from their sales representative.
8) Interact with Accounting/Finance to ensure that company financial requirements are met.
9) Develop and implement print and online advertising initiatives, including but not limited to, Google Ad Campaigns, Website Updates, Print Advertisements, Email Advertising Campaigns and Updated Company Literature.
10) Choose and attend appropriate meetings, conferences and exhibitions.
11) Provide support and representation during audits.
12) Develop agenda for and conduct department meetings and be available to present at company “all hands,” staff, EC, and board meetings as required.
13) Participate in the continued development and refinement of the company’s strategic plan.
14) Solicit and complete RFPs on a timely basis. Ensure that Company is in line to receive RFPs from new and existing sources on an ongoing basis.
15) Work the territories of North America, Europe, and Asia and solidify existing cross-referral agreements and recommend additional selling resources when advisable.
16) Update and maintain the sales forecast each week and to advise Finance and Project Management of changes.
17) Advise Executives and Operational group as to the needs/wants of the marketplace in terms of services and capacity requirements. This aligns with the development and implementation of strategy.
18) Continuously update the Company’s competitive intelligence data base and be responsible for anticipating the strategic direction of key Company competitors, to the extent possible.

Position Requirements:
1) Education – Minimum BS in Biological Science or related field.
2) Minimum of 5 years experience in business development for cGMP manufacturing services (CMO) or a related field.
3) Experience with developing and implementing marketing and advertising strategies.
4) Must possess the skills necessary to direct and manage a group of several sales representatives.
5) Experience writing and negotiating high level contracts, from one time agreements to multi-year supply contracts.
6) Must possess excellent presentation skills.
7) Must be skilled with standard business computer programs, such as Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel, and MS Project.

Interacts with:
1) Internal: Quality Assurance, Quality Control, Purchasing, Client Services, Sales and Marketing, Materials Management, Finance, Executive (CEO and Chairman).
2) External: Clients, Auditors, Vendors, Advertising Representatives.

Goals:
Ensure that prospective client pipeline is approximately three times larger (in dollars) than annual forecast. Make progress each week moving clients from name only up to 50% and ultimately 100% probability of closure. Meet or exceed annual sales and booking targets (given for 2008, TBD for 2009). Maintain cash neutrality or cash ahead of work done and maximize margins. Work with Operations and Quality to ensure smooth scheduling and that work is delivered on the timelines as promised.
