Position Description
RXi Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ: RXII) is a biopharmaceutical company pursuing the development and commercialization of proprietary therapeutics based on RNA interference (RNAi) for the treatment of serious human diseases. RXi was founded in January of 2007 by leaders in the RNAi field including Dr. Craig Mello, recipient of the 2006 Nobel Prize for Medicine for his co-discovery of RNAi.
RXi is looking for a talented scientist to join our interdisciplinary team working on development and evaluation of novel RNAi delivery platforms. The successful candidate will play a major role in the evaluation and optimization of RNAi compounds and delivery technologies. Working in collaboration with the chemistry and pharmacology groups as well as external resources, the Research Scientist will design and screen a wide range of formulations and chemistries, facilitating the advancement of RNAi compounds into development.
Key Responsibilities:
• Develop and run in vitro and in vivo assays to evaluate the efficiency and mechanism of RNAi compounds uptake by the cell
• Develop and run a variety of assays to evaluate chemistry/formulations spec and efficacy
• Design and screen a variety of compounds for optimized RNAi delivery in vitro and in vivo
• Establish and manage collaborations
• Interdisciplinary team project management
• Assemble formal and semi-formal documentation for lead compounds transfer into development
Qualifications:
• Ph.D. in Chemistry or Biochemistry with 1-5+ years of postdoctoral or industry experience
• Previous experience with tissue culture, oligonucleotides, chemistry and formulations is desired
• Previous experience with oligonucleotide/protein purification by FPLC or HPLC, protein chemistry, in vitro assay development, enzymology; protein engineering is a plus
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
