Position Description
Position Profile:
As part of the Executive team for a world leader in dietary supplements, sport nutrition and health products, the CSO will be responsible for planning, initiating, managing, and reporting the company’s research program to fulfill an expanding market growth strategic plan. The incumbent will manage a dynamic and expanding team of research and development professionals, and will be responsible for the recruitment and development of superior technical teams to execute the Research & Development mandate. Work frequently involves a matrix management approach and significant interaction with other company departments, academia and extramural research organizations. Domestic and international travel is involved. The successful candidate will have proven ability to effectively and creatively manage teams.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in research & development, as well as regulatory affairs. This would be an excellent opportunity for an individual who has successfully performed the role of Vice President, Research & Development in a major organization. A solid understanding of the ethical pharmaceutical, dietary supplement, nutraceutical, or food manufacturing industries and experience in a consumer packaged goods organization will help ensure success in this role.
The selected candidate will have a successful track record preferably with some experience within an entrepreneurial environment with at least 10 to 15 years related experience; will be an M.D. and will possess strong communication and interpersonal skills. More recently, the successful candidate will have led the R&D and Regulatory function in a senior management role for at least five years and successfully produced results in consumer product companies, both large and small.
This role will appeal to an individual with a “do what it takes” and “do what is right” work ethic. Working with the CEO, the CSO will lead, mentor and develop the R&D and Regulatory management team. As a collaborative member of the Executive team the incumbent will establish procedures and processes to facilitate the effective and efficient identification of new science with the potential to impact product development as well as participate in clinical trial design and contract management, marketing and advertising support, scientific intelligence and data mining, and identification and evaluation of novel intellectual property.
Candidate Profile:
• 10 to 15 years of senior international R&D and regulatory management experiences in the ethical pharmaceutical, dietary supplement, nutraceutical, or food manufacturing industries
