Position Description
Agilent Laboratories, Agilent Technologies’ central research laboratories in Santa Clara, CA is seeking a Senior Scientist for the Molecular Technologies Lab to envision, define, lead and actively pursue life sciences research as part of an innovative multidisciplinary team developing novel protein and proteomics measurement technologies. The successful candidate will identify and pursue advancements in protein measurement technology that will have a tangible impact on advancing the next generation of biological research in key areas such as cancer, neurological diseases, cardiovascular disease, autoimmune disorders, and stem cell research. The candidate will lead the invention, development and testing of new methods for the next generation of Agilent platforms and establish and lead strategic collaborations between Agilent Labs and external researchers to validate and proliferate these novel methods. For example, conduct applied research into developing new methodologies involving labeling reagents, liquid chromatography including traditional and microfluidics approaches, and mass spectrometric instruments such as QQQ and QTOF, as well as other emerging technologies.
In the course of developing new applications, evaluate opportunities for creating new data analysis and visualization tools in order to provide an integrated solution for acquiring and reducing data and representing complex biological information in collaboration with Agilent Labs computational biology and informatics experts.
Communicate progress and results to management and technical leadership, to selected external organizations and, when appropriate, to the general scientific community via presentations at scientific conferences and peer-reviewed publications.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Ph.D. in Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or related field (or equivalent)
• A minimum of 6 years (academic or industrial) demonstrated success in envisioning, creating and pursuing programs based on broad, independently initiated strategic research directions.
• Demonstrated forefront achievements in life sciences research as evidenced, for example, by high profile peer-reviewed publications, patents or invited talks.
• Hands-on experience with immunoaffinity separations, Liquid Chromatography, Mass Spectrometry, and related methods.
• Demonstrated success and direct responsibility for developing and/or utilizing new or emerging technologies for protein function studies, quantitative measurements of complex mixtures of biomolecules, and/or experimental characterization of protein interactions
• Demonstrated leadership in initiating and pursuing successful collaborative biomedical research projects with interdisciplinary and inter-institutional teams.
• Strong problem solving and quantitative data analysis expertise.
• Excellent communication, teamwork and leadership skills.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Experience in protein modification, labeling and quantitation.
• Experience with protein fractionation/separation techniques.
• Experience with microfluidics-based separation technologies
• Familiarity analyzing large data sets and using bioinformatics tools.
