Position Description
Responsible for establishing, fostering, cultivating and maintaining relationships with key opinion leaders (KOLs) with the end goal of building product advocacy leading to a strong franchise. Responsible for disseminating scientific and clinical information to build relationships with these individuals.
Initiates, coordinates and provides clinical protocol expertise to Physician Investigators including Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), physicians and other clinical investigators for use in postmarketing studies. Reviews, evaluates and assists with development of Investigator Sponsored Trials (ISTs) and assures that they are consistent with the company’s objectives, FDA regulations and necessary approvals.
Serves as a conduit for accurate and updated clinical, scientific and medical information between KOLs, investigators, thought leaders and academic institutions and the company’s Medical Affairs group. Assures that scientific and product information is current, relevant and readily available. Acts as the primary clinical/scientific resource in the Northwest region for information pertaining to disease state and company’s product(s) to ensure awareness and understanding.
This is a front line field position, critical to establishing and maintaining excellent educational and research collaborations with KOLs, thought leaders, investigators and key academic institutions to build outstanding product awareness and advocacy.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop strong relationships with KOLs, local thought leaders and key academic institutions and researchers.
Facilitate and establish research opportunities between Biogen Idec and research investigators.
Engage in meaningful scientific discussions with the researcher, both about the disease state as well as the scientific evidence available.
Presents clinical information to healthcare professionals and organizations.
Supports publications and medical communication activities.
Support and facilitate medical communications and publications (e.g. abstracts, case studies/series, review articles, etc.) by acting as a liaison between investigators and Biogen Idec Medical Affairs.
Supports commercial team with medical and scientific expertise.
Collaborates with commercial teams by demonstrating cooperative behavior and attitude, willingness for open communications and helping colleague’s various initiatives including but not limited to advisory boards, speaker training programs, consultancy meetings, etc.
Collaborate with medical research and commercial team regarding clinical issues.
Serve as key clinical resource to regional sales team and provide clinical education and training to cross-functional teams.
Keeps current with published literature in their therapeutic area of specialization.
Attends scientific/medical/professional meetings for educational purposes and to provide support at the Medical Affairs booth.
Reports information and activities per company policy and requirements.
Adheres to all company and regulatory agency guidelines regarding clinical investigation, dissemination of information and ethical conduct.
Qualifications:
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Able to travel 60%. This includes ability to travel overnight and occasional weekends.
Must be able to perform duties typically associated with a normal office environment when not traveling.
Knowledgeable in regulatory, commercial and clinical issues affecting the pharmaceutical industry.
Ability to work independently.
Preferred:
2-3 years of relevant experience in industry or clinical setting.
Experience in the field of oncology, neurology, immunology/dermatology, and/or hematology.
Experience with pharmaceutical research, knowledge of relevant clinical institutions and teaching hospitals and cooperative groups.
Experience as a Science Liaison.
Have an understanding of clinical research/Good Clinical Practice.
