Position Description
Virdante Pharmaceuticals is developing safer and more effective drugs for autoimmune and inflammatory diseases. Our products incorporate a proprietary “sialic switch” technology to improve the anti-inflammatory properties of antibodies. Virdante completed a Series A financing in 2008 with Clarus Ventures, Venrock Associates, MedImmune Ventures and Biogen Idec New Ventures. Virdante is located in Cambridge, MA.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Develop, optimize and qualify chromatographic and electrophoresis methods (e.g. HPLC, LC-MS, IEF, CE) for use in release and characterization of our biologic drug candidates.
•Develop and qualify analytical methods for quantitative analysis of antibody glycans and carbohydrates.
•Present analytical data at internal project or corporate partners meetings, for external conferences, and generate technical reports and/or sections for CMC documents required for various regulatory submissions.
•Manage technical collaborations with contract laboratories and academic partners, and coordinate transfer of assays to contract manufacturing partners.
QUALIFICATIONS:
•Ph.D. degree in analytical chemistry, biophysical/biochemical sciences, pharmaceutical sciences or a related field with a minimum of 3 to 5 years experience in supporting bioprocess development of therapeutic proteins or monoclonal antibodies. M.S. with 8+ years of similar experience will also be considered.
•Prior hands-on experience and in developing chromatographic and electrophoretic methods for quantitative glycan analysis and characterization is critical. A solid understanding and knowledge of carbohydrate chemistry and related bioanalytical techniques is essential.
•Demonstrated experience in glycoprotein characterization techniques, carbohydrate and peptide mapping, especially in the use of mass spectrometry for structural characterization of glycans is highly desirable.
•Proven scientific expertise for analytical problem identification and troubleshooting, laboratory investigations and providing guidance to coworkers.
•Excellent communication and written skills are essential, and prior experience in contributing to CMC sections of regulatory documents is highly desirable.
