Position Description


Job Purpose:
• Develop medical content for client programs and services that support the strategic and brand objectives of the product. Ensure that the medical information contained in the assigned projects is accurate, educationally appropriate, scientifically rigorous, and commercially fair balanced. Conduct literature searches and keep current with the literature in the assigned therapeutic area.
• Provide medical direction of assigned projects, which extends, in particular, to the supervision of content development by internal and freelance and Medical Writers and Medical Editors.
• Provide medical support for Business Development initiatives that support the strategic and brand objectives of the product.
• Ensure that the needs of both internal and external customers are met through prompt and clear communication, setting and managing expectations and cultivating strategic relationships with appropriate parties. Cultivate and maintain professional relationships among Excerpta Medica staff, the client, and physicians/experts involved in the development of medical educational materials.
Main Activities and Responsibilities:
• Develop medical content for client programs and ensure it supports the client’s brand objectives for the product.
• Research pharmaceutical products, competitor products and activities, as well as overall and market issues in order to propose new business initiatives for established or potential clients, on an “as needed” basis.
• Develop and maintain relationships with clients and key opinion leaders to maximize success of the scientific or educational programs to further enhance company’s credibility and reputation for excellence.
• Develop and maintain expertise in the assigned clinical and therapeutic medical communications programs and services to meet clients’ needs.
• Ability to provide medical direction to clients, writers, editors, and other medical directors as necessary.
General Knowledge and Technical Skills:
• Knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry and the medical communications business
• Excellent understanding of clinical and therapeutic areas of expertise
• Good analytical and problem solving skills
• Ability to effectively communicate with team members and internal customers
• Solid understanding of the medical information needs of the client, the physician, the patient, and other target audiences
• Effective working relationships with key opinion leaders and other physicians/experts in assigned programs
• Ability to interpret complex medical and statistical data in various formats
• Excellent writing skills and the ability to review and comment on the written work product of others
• Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills
Required Education and Experience
• Advanced Life Sciences degree-clinical or science-based program (MD< PhD, PharmD, or equivalent)
• At least 5 years experience in the pharmaceutical industry and/or medical communications business
• Willingness to travel occasionally
