Job Description:

Incumbent will be responsible for the interpretation and translation of clinical data into high quality and innovative educational programs as well a US publication plan and thought leader activities that will provide compelling and well balanced education fulfilling specific needs of the US medical community. Position will provide input into the strategic direction for both CME and US publications as well as being responsible for the implementation, facilitation, management and timely execution of these programs within Medical Affairs Specialized Therapeutics.
Additionally, the incumbent will analyze and understand the specific educational needs of the US medical community. He/she will take highly complex, technical data from various sources and effectively develop educational and publication strategies.
The success of the publication plan is dependent on the ability of the incumbent to work with clinical investigators and thought leaders on the publication of data. The relationships formed with key external collaborators are fundamental to product awareness.
The Senior Manager of CME and Scientific Communications will specifically be responsible for the following:
(1) Manage clinical data from ongoing and upcoming trials through publication activities and educational strategies
(2) Lead the development, implementation, and assessment of educational strategies for Medical Affairs Specialized Therapeutics ensuring they meet the educational needs of healthcare professionals
(3) Review qualifications of CME providers and assess the strengths/weaknesses of project/program proposals prior to support
(4) Lead and serve as Chairperson for Educational Strategy Meetings
(5) Identify, cultivate and maintain professional and productive relationships with medical education providers and accreditors
(6) Monitor and assess the educational needs of multiple provider groups (e.g., physicians, nurses, physician assistants, pharmacists)
(7) Review programs to ensure adherence to corporate, government and industry guidelines. Collaborate directly with legal in order to address issues or further clarify policies
(8) Work with the Deputy Director of Medical Education, ISS and Professional Relations to determine appropriate budgets during the Medical Affairs planning process for educational grants and publications for Medical Affairs Specialized Therapeutics
(9) Plan, develop, manage and execute the publication plan in a timely manner.
(10) Manage and direct the development and production of all US scientific communications
(11) Provide editorial review of publications to ensure scientific accuracy
(12) Plan and facilitate general MS Council meetings, sub-committee meetings, and Ad Boards
(13) Provide input on thought leader strategies and tactics during the Medical Affairs planning process
(14) Coordinate and align with internal and external customers regarding thought leader relationship management
Overall, the incumbent will contribute to the success of products by directing all activities to maximize exposure of fair balanced scientific data to the medical community.

Education: BA/BS degree required. Candidate should have an understanding of ACCME and OIG guidelines as well as experience in Medical Affairs, marketing, medical education, publications or key opinion leader activities.
Experience: Two to four years pharmaceutical or related experience in Medical Affairs, Marketing, Education / Medical Education, Publications or Key Opinion Leader activities.
The incumbent will be required to focus on multiple projects at one time, and should have the ability to organize and direct diverse activities in a changing environment under time pressure. A thorough understanding of the requirements and regulations for continuing medical education and publications is desired.
Strong personal management skills are necessary. Requires outstanding interpersonal skills, and the ability to work cross-functionally with internal and external partners. Must have exceptional communication skills, and the ability to refine messages to their essence and communicate them clearly. A matrix structure requires additional skills in gathering decision information, negotiating and communicating decisions and action. In many cases competing objectives will have to be harmonized and reconciled to achieve the overall objectives. Requires ability to maintain a high level of productivity with minimal supervision, and the competency to work effectively with thought leaders. Must be independent, proactive, innovative, and able to react quickly in a dynamic market place.
The incumbent must be able to represent Bayer when traveling to medical and scientific conferences as well as establish professional relationships with clinical investigators, opinion leaders, consultants, clinical research organizations, professional societies, publishers, and editors to effect maximum exposure of Bayer-sponsored research.
