Position Description
Old Dominion University, a research intensive university with an active and growing research program, seeks a Licensing Associate for its Technology Licensing Office. The Licensing Associate will, under the direction of the manager, administer all invention disclosures, patents & contracts and be responsible for filing & database maintenance; communicate with inventors, attorneys, accountants, grant managers and potential licenses; assist with evaluations and marketing of invention disclosures, through prior art searches, market research, financial analysis; and drafting/negotiation of contracts, agreements, and licenses.
Qualifications:
A Bachelor degree in life sciences and prior professional experience in a marketing, legal or manufacturing environment equivalent to a Masters degree.
Good analytical and written/oral communications skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Self-starter with attention to details and ability to manage multiple assignments.
Proficient in the use of MS Office and experience with databases.
Preferred Qualifications:
An advanced life sciences degree combined with an MBA or paralegal qualification; prior professional experience in marketing, business development or commercialization of new technologies and knowledge of technological developments in the field of life sciences.
