Position Description
PROVEN Scientific Practice is currently recruiting for a Scientist with expertise in the area of Crystallography to work with a dynamic drug discovery company located in the Sorrento Mesa area.
The successful candidate will be responsible for research and development of crystal structures of proteins bound with small molecules.
Duties include: obtaining structures of kinases (protein and small molecules); fragment screening; cloning and expression in E. coli and BV, purifying protein, crystallizing, and collecting x-ray data; supervising technical staff; scheduling x-ray beam line and prioritizing crystals; developing software tools to facilitate protein crystal structure solutions; identifying novel technologies to measure and identify protein-compound binding; interpreting structural information to facilitate medicinal chemistry; identifying novel targets for oncology drug discovery; and liaising between structural biology and computational chemistry and oncology teams.
Duties include: providing leadership of inter-disciplinary teams consisting of biologists, chemists, computational chemists and pharmacologists, define project strategy, manage resources, chair team meetings, liase between discovery and development research groups, plan time-lines, and decision points.
Education: Ph.D. degree, or foreign equivalent, in Crystallography, Biochemistry or related field and 5+ years of applicable industry experience.
Special Skills: Professional and/or academic experience must include: ability to generate crystal structures starting from cDNA; early drug discovery including biochemical and cell assays, screening, dose response analysis and interdisciplinary project co-ordination; small molecule kinases, kinetic mechanism, mechanism of action studies, and enzymology; instrumentation and methodologies: protein cross-linking, MALDI-TOF, LC-MS, limited proteolysis, DLS, and robotics.
