Position Description

In this role, the incumbent will be responsible for delivering product development projects to support GSK Consumer Healthcare R&D programs. By participation in, as well as leading project teams they will demonstrate technical expertise in formulation science, providing leadership in the direction and development of that specialist area regarded as critical to future business growth. The incumbent will operate as the interface of functional disciplines, both inside and outside of New Product Development, and coordinate the activities of specialists to design work programs and participate in their execution to provide support to development projects or existing projects. They may lead complex global projects or have overall leadership responsibility for multiple projects within a single or across multiple areas. They may lead these projects across all R&D functions. They will manage overall work priorities and ensure team activities are in accordance with company standards and regulations, taking into account scientific, budgetary and timing objectives while continually developing scientific self and other staff in the science of formulation and processing of solid dose forms, as to meet future business demands.
Basic Qualifications:
• Advanced degree in Pharmaceutical Science or Chemistry and 5+ years pharmaceutical industry experience within R&D new product development:
• Ability to recommend and implement pragmatic solutions to problems associated with the manufacture of solid dose forms.
• Track record of leadership of projects to delivery.
• Demonstrated excellence in chemistry and formulation science including process scale up
• Complete familiarity with guidelines such as ICH, EMEA and FDA in areas of Pharmaceutical development and in areas of CMC and CTD
• Knowledge and understanding of international requirements for drug development in area of NDAs
• Ability to identify complex problems; design & perform appropriate experiments to understand root cause of problems.
• Demonstrated expertise and skills in experimental design, such as “Quality by Design” from pre-formulation to scale up.
• Knowledge of R&D processes, regulatory requirements and associated commercial and manufacturing environments.
• Ability to interpret, communicate and present results and their impacts to the business succinctly to other scientists and stakeholders, both internally and externally
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience in Nicotine replacement therapy
• M.S. with 10 – 15 years experience or Ph.D. with 5 – 10 years
• Ability to perform, and where appropriate lead others to perform experimental work in gathering product and process understanding, and recommend manufacturing processes or improvements leading to the successful production of consistently high quality products
• Knowledge of design space concept via establishing product design specifications and selection of appropriate in vitro test methodology
• Knowledge and experience of pre-formulation chemistry and characterization techniques.
