Position Description
My Client is an early Stage private Pharmaceutical Company. They are a majority owned subsidiary of a seed stage Life Science focused Venture Development firm.
They are on a confidential search for a Seasoned Oncology
President/COO—this position is newly created
The company has entered into a binding Letter of Intent to acquire a late stage clinical compound for redirection towards several unmet clinical needs in oncology. In addition, one of the largest biotechnology investment banks has been engaged to raise the associated acquisition and operational funding.
Position reports to the CEO and Board of Directors.
Prior experience bringing several successful oncology drugs from Phase II to market a must; as is effective experience working in startup environment.
Overview:
Responsibilities will be to direct regulatory and clinical strategy to obtain market approval across multiple indications. Long term responsibilities shall include eventual assumption of CEO role currently held by the lead VC.
The President/COO is responsible for growing and managing all aspects of the company. This individual will be instrumental in securing strategic partnering agreements and will prepare the company for an initial public offering (IPO) or other appropriate strategic alternatives.
You will have a demonstrable track record in raising money in the Biotech/Pharmaceutical arena.
You will have been a Pres/CEO/COO for a Biotech Corp—Your background will have the definitive attribute of —-Been there Done That!— in Oncology.
Key Position Responsibilities:
Achievement of overall financial goals and objectives.
Development of business plan including short term and long-range goals, objectives, and strategies.
Work with the CEO in the development and management of investor relationships.
Prepare company for possible IPO or other strategic alternatives and engage in all phases of negotiations, including road show.
Oversee negotiations and structuring of strategic partnerships.
Presentation of budgets, strategic plans, quarterly operative results, and other relevant matters to the Board of Directors.
Responsible for overall corporate image and product quality.
Specific Position Requirements:
Prior general management experience whereby the candidate has led either successful IPO efforts or M & A efforts.
Prior experience bringing several successful oncology drugs from Phase II to market a must; as is effective experience working in startup environment. MD preferred, PhD nice to have but not required. Ability to work within dynamic environment and virtual organization a strong preference. Prior CEO experience not a requirement, though a positive. No relocation required-work where you live—frequent trips to the Northeast required monthly.
Prior general management experience with bottom line P & L responsibility for a Biotech business with demonstrable track record is a must.
Prior experience in the Biotech, Pharmaceutical— Oncology focus or related arena is required.
Substantial prior experience in dealing with the institutional investment community is preferred.
Prior Pharmaceutical/Biotech marketing/business development or operations experience is required.
Compensation:
Salary, stock options (above market equity position) and bonus package will be commensurate with background and experience.
