Position Description

The Genomics Pharmaceutical Market Specialist is an expert level sales role. This position will be responsible for developing and executing the strategy to increase penetration for the Agilent microarray platform in the major pharmaceutical companies in the US and Canada. The Genomics Pharmaceutical Market Specialist will serve as a sales overlay to the geographic Genomic Product Specialists and will function in a coordinated way to advance strategies, opportunities, and deals. This will be a quota based position with strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

- Find and advance microarray opportunities and drive sales in the major Pharmaceutical companies in the US and Canada
- Develop a pharmaceutical sales strategy, aligning current product applications with pharmaceutical customer needs, identifying areas of unmet need and driving recommendations for application development and product positioning
- Identify opportunities with pharmaceutical customers and their clinical academic collaborators to incorporate platform-based genomic applications into disease-centric and drug-centric clinical studies that convert into instrument and/or consumables sales
- Conduct internal and external presentations covering technical topics and business strategy
- Focus on strategic microarray applications (Gene Expression, CGH/CNV, Methylation, Tiling, miRNA, and applications in Oligo Library Synthesis) and have the ability to recognize new trends in microarray applications in the pharmaceutical industry
- Participate and be an active member in the Genomics sales organization
- Identify strategic consortia and networks that influence the science and buying decisions in pharmaceutical and drive Agilent involvement with key players
- Develop and maintain strategic customer relationships
- Provide clinical development expertise to pharmaceutical and their clinical academic collaborators, enabling the design of clinical genomic studies incorporating Agilent microarray platform applications
- Identify and lead the development of focused clinical genomic “proof-of-concept” studies incorporating platform applications into drug development programs with pharmaceutical customers that translate into instrument and/or consumable sales
- Provide training and support to sales representatives (and marketing) on pharmaceutical development dynamics and business drivers
- Team with product development, product management, and R&D to develop pharma-centric product positioning and competitive differentiation for platform applications
- Represent Agilent to the customer AND the customer to the company

Qualifications:
- Minimum BS/MS in Chemistry or a Life Sciences discipline, or equivalent
- Solid self management, organizational, and prioritization skills
- 5+ years related direct sales experience with a demonstrated track record for achieving quota and closing small and large strategic deals
- High level of experience in microarrays, sequencing, and general molecular biology and the leading customers that buy them
- Technical knowledge and domain knowledge in the research, diagnostics, and pharmaceutical industry (profit and not for profit)
- Industry/Application expertise. Working knowledge of competitive products (specifications, value propositions, price points)
- Understand Genomics in the Pharmaceutical industry and recognize trends that impact buying of Agilent products
- Experience in selling microarrays successfully to major pharmaceutical, existing knowledge of and credibility with many pharmaceutical leaders
- Experienced and comfortable interfacing with senior level leaders in customer organizations and internally
- Demonstrated selling skills. Strong business development and sales closing skills
- Effective interpersonal communication and telephone sales skills. This person must be a team player as they will be interfacing significantly with the business unit and sales organization
- Must be able to travel up to 40% of the time.


- Location: Field Based, flexible but preference for Mid Atlantic, Eastern Seaboard or Midwest.
