Position Description
Title: Business Development Director
Reports to: VP of Sales
Territory: Southern California, Arizona and Hawaii
Compensation: Base, Commission, Attractive & Competitive benefits program
The primary objective will be to generate new business by uncovering and converting opportunities. This position requires a hunter who will be highly experienced in the business development aspects of providing outsourced clinical research services. The ideal candidate will possess a strong contact list in the clinical trial sector from Pharma, Biotech and Medical Device sponsors. Ensure proper positioning and penetration of the company’s diagnostic and imaging services into pharmaceutical companies. Ensure positioning with large Pharma at all levels from senior management to technical and operations executives.
Responsibilities include:
Identifying Opportunity – Working with marketing, field sales, identify large opportunities within the above marketplace. Generate new leads and prospects.
Opening doors – Position the company to deliver services pitch for new opportunities.
Trail-blazing – Identify key contacts to build new business and cultivate current customers.
Closing deals – Work with customers and sales to land deals.
Relationship Building – Establish opportunities in current customers for long term sales growth. Recommended service improvements.
Future Building – Continue to keep company on the leading edge by working with key contacts. Leverage multiple relationships at clients in clinical development, outsourcing and operations to build consensus and recognition of service value.
Strategic planning – develop, maintain and execute a business plan to deliver revenue at or above quota.
Development – Ensure ongoing understanding of BMS service offering, message, competitive information, etc.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Candidates for this position must have at least 5 plus years pharmaceutical industry/ clinical research experience. Must have a strong background with in depth knowledge of the industry.
• Proven track record of revenue growth and driving excellence and success. Must possess a strong business acumen and solid sales skills.
• 5 plus years successful pharma/ CRO/ medical sales experience.
• 4 year degree in health and science, business field or related experience.
• Excellent presentation, communication, and negotiation skills.
• A hunter, assertive personality with high energy.
• Must have a high level of intellectual, professional and interpersonal ability to communicate effectively.
• Candidates must possess a global perspective and experience working worldwide.
• Must possess a desire and work ethic to succeed.
• Must be competitive and hate to lose.
• Must show an ability to achieve results, establish priorities, and work independently.
• A self-starting orientation within a fast-paced environment with an intense desire/drive to “make things happen” – “can do” attitude.
• Must be a self-starter, a good team player, and very effective interfacing and working within other areas of the company. Collaborative style a must.
