Responsibilities:

This is a key role and member of the senior leadership team (includes Product Line Leaders) of the MPI Discovery Center. This position is responsible for the overall direction of laboratory operations within the Discovery Center. Initially this role will focus on establishment of a new level of process for non-GLP discovery research.

The Director will work closely with Directors/Senior Directors of the Discovery Center Product Lines to provide appropriate resources for growth and profitability and ensure that the needs of the businesses are aligned with the operational resources; oversee and guide his/her direct reports in the management of the individual laboratories to ensure a long-term goal of building a staff that is scientifically strong and able to execute projects as effectively and efficiently as possible; have the ability to think strategically and creatively to provide both short and long term solutions that will support continuous improvement of all aspects of operations; possess interpersonal skills that enable and promote collaborative relationships among his/her staff and across reporting lines to Study Directors; and seek internal and external educational and training opportunities for the operations staff, in an effort to increase the depth and breadth of knowledge in relevant scientific disciplines. Metrics for the performance of the operational staff will be developed with a long term view of building the best team for a discovery environment.

This position will also direct laboratory operations; ensure SOPs, Protocols and study procedures are in compliance with the FDA, USDA, DEA, NRC, AAALAC, EPA and other regulatory agencies as appropriate; organize, plan and maintain budgets and spending vs. revenue in each department; review and approve SOPs and revisions; assess workload and ensure laboratory has appropriate equipment and resources to carry out functions; support, inform, and carry out directives of the Director of Discovery Research and the CMT; actively lead / participate in development of new capabilities; and ensure employee workplace safety meets company’s standards.

Supervisory responsibilities are in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws to include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Qualifications:

Individual must have an MS / BS in relevant field, or HS, and 9 years relevant experience including 6 years management experience; excellent organizational and communication skills; verbal and written; problem-solving skills and ability to make quick decisions; then communicate decisions effectively; a desire to learn new techniques and train others in a team environment; and the ability to lead and manage staff in growing and changing environment.

Additionally, having the ability to work extended hours beyond normal work schedule which includes, but is not limited to, evenings, weekends, extended shifts and/or extra shifts, sometimes on short notice; and having the ability to work under specific time constraints is expected.
