The Product Manager will drive the marketing efforts for lab automation/liquid handling product line for worldwide markets, and be a key contributor in developing the product line strategy. This position is highly cross functional, requiring broad understanding of products and customers as well as strong relationships across Marketing, Engineering, Sales, and Operations. The successful candidate will be a high energy individual that can provide leadership for guiding internal teams, introducing products, evaluating new technologies, articulating issues, and making clear recommendations to senior management. He/she will create and manage the process used to define a product’s features. The Product Manger will develop, communicate, and position the liquid handling product line, working on new product areas of very high complexity and of great potential impact to Velocity11. He/she will have expert knowledge of competitive products and competitor strategy. The Product Manger will create and deliver presentations and conduct group discussions on products for Velocity11’s audiences and will be seen as an ambassador for our liquid handling business, attending tradeshows and customer visits.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Develops product development and marketing strategies to meet aggressive product line growth targets
• Provide business development leadership in forming and maintaining close reference-account customer relationships
• Lead the development of business-case analyses and business requirements for cross-group and departmental projects
• Guide the development of product launch strategies and implementation plans
• Set product-pricing strategies, including discount structures, and manage those strategies in conjunction with market dynamics
• Identify new market and business opportunities
• Lead a relevant team to develop account specifics sales and marketing plans and exceed targets through customer centric activities
• Develop and lead the implementation of a plan to participate in market research including post-market surveillance, competitor and current practice activities
• Provide ongoing market information for strategic business planning including key opinion leader database – work closely with key opinion leaders to establish product profile in publications and press
• Coordinate and participate in promotional activities such as conferences, symposia, workshops and media events
• Works with senior management to develop positioning/branding image for product lines, promotional materials and events
• Drives the product/marketing message through all communication channels
Qualifications:
• B.S. or B.A. degree or equivalent, advanced degree (M.S., Ph.D., M.B.A.) highly desired
• 4+ years of experience in product management, as a Product Manager, with experience developing business case analyses, requirements specifications, and outbound marketing campaigns
• Experience in marketing and product development, preferably related to automated instrumentation preferably with liquid handling instruments
• Demonstrated success in penetrating new markets with innovative products or concepts
• Knowledge of worldwide laboratory automation and life science discovery tools markets is highly desirable
• Strong customer and cross-group skills, including listening skills
• Strong written and oral communication, persuasion, and presentation skills
• An inextinguishable fire to succeed
• The ability to sweat the details while not losing sight of the big picture
• Ability to work on simultaneous projects under deadline constraints in a complex environment
• Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office software programs, particularly Word, PowerPoint, Excel and MS Project
• Available for up to 35% business travel
