Position Description

We are seeking a highly motivated, self managed, and process oriented mechanical engineer to fill a key role within the Product Enhancement section of Velocity11 – An Agilent Technologies Products R&D Department. The ideal candidate will be a technically skilled, adept problem-solver with experience designing precision, plastic molded parts as well as all manner of machined metal and sheet metal parts.

Responsibilities include:
• Design high precision, intricate molded plastic parts for a consumables product line
• Support a consumables product line with consultations and design improvements
• Translate customer, manufacturing, and marketing requirements into engineered product solutions
• Evolve current mechanical designs and create new ones
• Perform analysis and validation experiments to guide the design process
• Create detail drawings for parts and support those parts through fabrication
• Assemble, debug, and test prototype mechanical assemblies
• Support and document mechanical designs as they are transitioned to manufacturing
• Provide technical assistance to manufacturing, service, marketing, and other internal groups
• Contribute in positive way to an exciting, rewarding company culture

Qualifications :

Requires:
• BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent; MS highly desired
• 5+ years of technical experience required
• 3+ years of experience designing molded plastic parts
• Excellent mechanical design knowledge and skills
• Significant experience designing precision, molded plastic parts
• Proficient knowledge of 3D CAD program (SolidWorks preferred)
• Proficiency with creation of detail drawings for machined parts
• Demonstrated history managing part fabrication at external shops
• Experience with basic mill and lathe machining
• Passion for engineering and creating solutions
• Demonstrated history of creativity in solutions to complex problems
• Knowledge of automation components such as motors, pneumatic actuators, displays, sensors, control systems
• Methodical troubleshooting and debugging capabilities
• Ability to adapt to sometimes rapidly and dramatically changing project goals
• Demonstrated history of driving projects to completion in schedule driven environments
• Ability to manage time between multiple projects
• Excellent communication skills, written as well as oral.
• Ability to be productive and work collaboratively with team members from multiple disciplines.
