Position Objective:
To identify, manage and deliver the product development and marketing support required of the assigned business unit, product or product portfolio, including marketing analysis, planning and project management. Assigned product portfolios include a diverse catalog of existing products and the development of new products based on new and existing technologies.
Essential Functions:
Manage existing product portfolios, including all stages of product lifecycle. Develop and manage new product portfolios within the strategic goals of the business, including product definition, positioning, and product lifecycle management. Responsibilities also include developing marketing plans, leading new product development teams, and maintaining current information on competitors and product-related markets (domestic and global).
In collaboration with marketing and other domestic and international business groups, design and implement effective promotional and sales tools and marketing collateral.
Develop and maintain active collaborative working relationship with other business units, operational groups, and R&D.
May perform other related duties as required and/or assigned.
Nature and Scope:
This position interacts with varying levels of internal and external personnel and will require direct customer communication, public presentation, and a team-focused approach. Strong business and customer focus are essential. Effectiveness in this role requires the ability to clearly communicate verbally and in writing Invitrogen’s product development and marketing plans, and a general knowledge of operating plans as well as industry practices for developing, promoting and selling similar products. The incumbent exercises judgment within generally defined practices and policies in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results, and is able to synthesize a decisive path forward based on all available information. Interaction normally requires the ability to gain cooperation of others and conduct presentations of technical information. May provide general guidance or direct supervision to other employees. Some travel (international and domestic) is required.
Education:
Bachelor’s or advanced degree in lifesciences (Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry or related field) or the equivalent education and experience are required. M.B.A. preferred.
Experience:
Demonstrated effectiveness in marketing, marketing analysis or similar role including participating in market analysis and planning. Strong communication skills as well as analytical, project management and planning skills necessary. Business development skills and cross-functional team leadership experience preferred. The ability to see new business opportunities, set and meet aggressive objectives and develop strong working relationships will be required for success.
