Position Description

Location: Morrisville, NC
Summary:

The Technology Development group at Cogenics is looking for an experienced Bioinformatics Analyst to support our gene expression, genotyping, and next generation sequencing platforms. As a member of the Technology Development Team you will design programs and analytic systems for processing large volumes of genomic data generated by these assays. Relevant experience will include software development including web-based applications for analyzing primary data and reporting results. The ideal candidate will be capable of providing leadership and input into current best practices for bioinformatics applications. Ideal candidate will be someone excited about contributing to cutting-edge research projects using whole genome gene expression, genotyping and sequencing platforms.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assist with the design and development of bioinformatics related programming projects.
• Interface with internal customers to define information needs; gather functional requirements, create designs, and produce production quality software.
• Manage data handling and analysis for next generation sequencing and state of the art genotyping and gene expression profiling platforms.

Background Requirements:

• M.S. in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, or related area and 4 years of relevant programming experience; advance degree a plus.
• Familiarity with common bioinformatics tools like BLAST and BLAT required.
• Knowledge of commonly used SNP and genome databases.
• Experience in utility programming (UNIX, C shell, Perl, or other languages).
• Working knowledge of SQL and relational database applications required.
• Experience programming SOAP web services a plus.
• Excellent analytical and interpersonal skills.
• Applicants should value collaboration and teamwork while also being able to work individually and prioritize multiple projects. A high degree of professionalism, customer focus, and organizational skills is required.
• Experience with Genome wide association studies and/or biostatistics is a PLUS.
